Turner

A neighborhood within the area of Kansas City, Kansas was the former unincorporated community of Wyandotte County that is also similar to Piper, Kansas called Turner. In the 19th century, Cyprian Chouteau established the first trading post in this locale. It was the American Fur Company trading house located near 55th and Speaker Road. The original Shawnee Methodist Mission was built in 1830 near the heart of the Turner community.

Reverend Thomas Johnson established the mission for the Shawnee, and it was located at 5100 block of Edgehill Drive. The mission was open until 1839 when the Mission school institution was built in Johnson County. The Delaware Crossing was where the old Indian trail met the waters of the Kaw River.

During the 20th century, A major flood in 1903 hit Turner. Where the neighborhood rebuilds and built new general stores, money order office, a school, telegraph, and express facilities. Historically, the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway went through Argentine in Turner as well as the Kaw Valley. From the railroad yard within Argentine, the railroad cars would be turned around the Farmer train platform.

Education

Golden Bear mascot was adopted for the school and the whole community of Turner in 1886. Turner also has successfully established and gained trust when it comes to education to the youth of Turner. Some of these schools are:

The Turner Aquatic Center is an eight-lane state-of-the-art aquatic facility with an attached zero-depth entry pool.
