Argentine

Located in the southern part of Wyandotte County in Kansas City, Kansas is the community of Argentine. It is bordered by the Turner community on the east, Johnson County on the south, Armourdale community on the north, and by the Kansas River. Argentine was first recognized for its prosperous silver smeltery from where its name derived from. Built on the site of a former Shawnee reservation, local lumber sources, the proximity of the railroad, the smeltery, and years later became a steel manufacturing area that the city enjoyed a considerable amount of economic success within the years.

When the closing of the smeltery occurred, the city has found itself in the throes of an unprecedented financial crisis and it started seeking help from nearby Kansas City during 1907. The community was annexed and became the seventh ward of Kansas City, KS during 1910, and the neighborhood retains its own distinct flavor and culture, and personality.
